Eötvös Loránd University is launching a call for applications for long-term and short-term student mobilities for the academic year 2026/2027. The deadline for applications is 23 February 2026.

AIM OF THE CALL

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility, students have the opportunity to participate in short- or long-term study mobilities at one of our partner universities in a so-called Erasmus Partner Country (i.e. not being part of the classic Erasmus+ program, such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland or non-European countries). A mobility can be started only at partner universities that have signed an inter-institutional agreement with ELTE by the start date of the mobility.

The following mobilities are available:

1. Long-term student mobility for studies in close partner countries (i.e. the United Kingdom, Switzerland)
2. Short-term doctoral mobility in close partner countries (i.e. the United Kingdom, Switzerland)
3. Long-term student mobility for studies in distant partner countries
4. Short-term doctoral mobility in distant partner countries
5. Long-term student mobility for tranineeship

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that only students of the departments/institutes cooperating with the partners listed below are eligible to apply for the mobilities announced in this call. You may find more information under the description of each type of mobility.

RANKING OF APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED IN DIFFERENT ERASMUS+ PROGRAMS

If you have simultaneously submitted several long-term mobility applications in the framework of different Erasmus+ calls for the same mobility period, the applications will be ranked as follows:

1. Erasmus+ study abroad programme within the framework of agreements for all subject fields
2. Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility
3. Erasmus+ Mobility Programme within Europe

This means that a successful application under the Erasmus+ study abroad programme within the framework of agreements for all subject fields will take priority over all other types of applications, even if those are also successful, and the others will be automatically cancelled. The same procedure applies if you submit successful long-term mobility applications for both the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility programme and the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme within Europe for the same semester. In this case, the latter will be cancelled. 

Travel support

All applicants are eligible to a one-time travel support, based on the distance between the headquarters of the sending and the host institutions, determined with the European Commission's calculator. Green travel (confirmed sustainable means of transport) is defined as the travel that uses low-emissions means of transport, such as bus, train, car-pooling or bike. Flights and boat trips are not considered green. Travelling by car is only eligible for additional support in the case of car-sharing (regardless of whether it is a vehicle powered by traditional fuel or an electric car, e.g. car-sharing service or at least two Erasmus+ scholarship holders travel in one car together, etc. is accepted). If the scholarship holder is accompanied by a relative or friend only, it does not qualify as green travel!

The amount of the travel support based on the distance (please note, that different travel support is available for some partnerships, this is indicated in the tables below in each case):

AVAILABLE MOBILITY TYPES

1. Long-term mobility for studies in close partner countries

The purpose of the long-term mobility for studies is to complete one academic semester at a partner university or do thesis research. BA/BSc and MA/MSc students can complete a mobility only if ELTE recognizes the exchange semester and includes the results in the academic progress of the student – this is done either by credit and grade conversion in line with ELTE regulations or in the form of a diploma supplement. BA/BSc and MA/MSc students are required to complete a minimum of 20 ECTS credits during their semester abroad.

PhD students do not have to complete courses and gain credits if the purpose of the mobility is doctoral research.

• Mobility duration: min. 2 months, max. as indicated in the table below
• Grant amount: EUR 600/month
• Travel support (one-time support, based on the distance between the headquarters of the sending and the host institutions, determined with the European Commission's calculator)
• Additional support and green travel support is available.

2. Short-term doctoral mobility in close partner countries

Short-term mobility is open only to PhD students for the purpose of research or participating in workshops or training.

Conference attendance is NOT eligible for funding.

• Mobility duration: min. 5 days, max. as indicated in the table below.
• Grant amount: EUR 79/day until the 14th day, EUR 56/day from the 15th day.
• Travel support (one-time support, based on the distance between the headquarters of the sending and the host institutions, determined with the European Commission's calculator)
• An additional 1-1 travel day may be granted before and after the mobility (up until the maximum duration of the mobility).
• Additional support and green travel support is available.

3. Long-term mobility for studies in distant partner countries

During a long-term mobility for studies students complete one academic semester abroad or do thesis research. BA/BSc and MA/MSc students can complete their mobility only if ELTE recognizes the exchange semester and includes the results in the academic progress of the student – this is done by either credit and grade conversion in line with ELTE regulations or the in form of a diploma supplement. BA/BSc and MA/MSc students are required to complete a minimum of 20 ECTS credits during their semester abroad.

Short-term mobility is open only to PhD students for the purpose of research, advanced studies or professional training.

Conference attendance is NOT eligible for funding.

• Mobility duration: min. 5 days, max. as indicated in the table below
• Grant amount: EUR 79/day until the 14th day, EUR 56/day from the 15th day. 
• An additional 1-1 travel day may be granted before and after the mobility (up until the maximum duration of the mobility).
• Travel support (one-time support, based on the distance between the headquarters of the sending and the host institutions, determined with the European Commission's calculator)
• Additional support and green travel support is available where indicated in the table below.

5. Long-term mobillity for traineeship

The purpose of the mobilities is participation in a professional traineeship organized by the partner university. The activities carried out within the professional practice are counted by ELTE in the student's progress. In all cases, the credit recognition is initiated by the student. If the completed activity fits into the curriculum, credit may be awarded for it, if not, the University will indicate this in the diploma supplement. Since the credit recognision may differ, please check with your academic coordinator or at your faculty administration office before applying

• Mobility duration: min. 2 months, max. as indicated at each mobility in the table below
• Grant support: EUR 700/month
• Travel support (one-time support, based on the distance between the headquarters of the sending and the host institutions, determined with the European Commission's calculator)

COMPLETING THE MOBILITY

Students completing their studies abroad in the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility program

• do not pay tuition fees at the host institution;
• are in active student status and enrolled at the home university, pay their tuition fees, and receive their regular scholarship for the duration of their stay abroad;
• in case of a long-term mobility, students carry out part of their domestic study obligations by studying abroad. The two cooperating institutions agree about the courses to be taken at the host university before the mobility begins. BA/BSc and MA/MSc students are required to complete a minimum of 20 ECTS credits. There can be a higher (but not a lower) minimum of credits set by the course supervisor and published in the faculty/institution/departmental call.
• Courses related to the major of the student are accepted based on the ELTE credit number, while other courses are evaluated through a separate procedure. For more information on credit recognition see our website.

WHO CAN APPLY?

All ELTE students who

• have Hungarian citizenship, a registration certificate or a valid permanent or temporary residence permit (with the exception of BA or MA Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holders - however, doctoral students with a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship can apply for short-term mobilities, while Stipendium Hungaricum Dissertation Scholarship holder can not apply for a mobility);
• have completed at least two semesters in their BA program by the time of the planned mobility (some faculties might set a higher number of completed semesters in their qualification rules);
• have a valid student status at ELTE in the semester when the mobility is planned;
• meet the application requirements of the faculty/department concerned;
• have at least a B2 level in the language(s) of education (if the host university requires a higher level of language proficiency, this will apply);

According to Erasmus+ rules, each student can be granted Erasmus status for a maximum of 12 months in total per level of education (part-time and professional training altogether, even if it is zero grant (label) mobility!). If the applicant has participated in an Erasmus part-time course and/or professional training at their current level of education but has not used the 12-month Erasmus timeframe, they can apply again. Master's or doctoral students who have already been Erasmus+ scholarship holders at their previous level(s) of training can also apply.

HOW TO APPLY

To apply for any types of mobility, please submit the following documents:

1. application form and attachements:
   1.1. application form for Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (filled via a word processor, digitally or manually signed by the applicant) AND the declaration of support (filled and signed by the academic coordinator and the head/chair of the sending department/institute
   1.2. application form for SEMP mobility programme (filled via a word processor, digitally or manually signed by the applicant)
2. curriculum vitae (in English and in the language required by the host institution);
3. motivation letter (in English and in the language required by the host institution); -- How to write a motivation letter?
4. transcript of records of last two semesters in English (printed out from the Neptun system); -- How to print transcript of records from Neptun?
5. a copy of diploma in Hungarian and English (in case you are an MA/MSc or PhD student);
6. certificate of the required language proficiency (you may contact the academic coordinator about the required language skills); in the absence of a language certificate, the sending department/institute can issue a proof of language (signed by the head of department/institute)
7. a copy of permanent or temporary residence permit or refugee status document if you are not a Hungarian citizen;
8. any additional documents required by the faculty/institute/department.

Please note that your CV and motivational letter (together with other supporting documents) will be forwarded to the partner institution as part of the nomination process. You will be introduced by these documents to the professors and staff of the host institution.

If the call for applications of the faculty or institute/department contains other requirements, you have to meet those as well in order to submit a successful application.

We accept all documents in digital form (Word or Pdf form) only. We ask applicants to name the documents the following way: "Name Last Name_[type of document]" (e.g. "John Smith_Letter of motivation"). Incomplete, illegible or handwritten applications will not be accepted.

When preparing your application, please check the course offerings on the partner universities' website to find out in which language and at which level (bachelor or master) courses are offered. APPLICATION DEADLINE AND EVALUATION PROCEDURE

Submission of applications

Applications for the academic year 2026/2027 have to be submitted to the faculty international office (students of the Faculty of Humanities must submit their applications to the academic coordinator in charge) by 23 February. This deadline may vary due to faculty/institute/department specifics. Evaluated applications will be forwarded to the Department of Erasmus+ and International Programs by the faculty international offices no later than 18 March 2026.

Evaluation of the applications

General criteria of evaluation (the list is not in a priority order, and there might be other aspects as well due to specific faculty regulations):

• language proficiency;
• academic achievements;
• professional knowledge and activity;
• academic excellence or other significant professional achievements;
• participation in the activities of the ELTE Students’ Union or other organizations;
• mentoring of incoming Erasmus students.

Ranking and decision-making

Applications proposed for financial support by the respective faculties, will be further evaluated by HOMB (Hallgatói és Oktatói Mobilitási Bizottság that is, Committe on Student and Staff Mobility). HOMB decision on which applicaitons to grant financial support to will be finalized on 9 April 2026. Partner universities confirm whether to host ELTE applicants via a nomination procedure by the end of April 2026. 

Successful applications not granted a financial support will be placed on reserve list. If the partner university confirms to host an applicant without a financial support, (s)he might decide to start her/his mobility as a self-financed participant.

The announcement of results

Successful applicants are notified via e-mail, expected in mid-April. Where nomination deadline precedes the HOMB decision on financial support, students will be conditionally nominated to partners.

This means that a successful application under the Erasmus+ study abroad programme withing the framewrok of agreements for all subject fields will take priority over all other types of applications, even if those are also successful, and the others will be automatically cancelled. The same procedure applies if you submit successful long-term mobility applications for both the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility programme and the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme within Europe for the same semester. In this case, the latter will be cancelled. 

Travel support

All applicants are eligible to a one-time travel support, based on the distance between the headquarters of the sending and the host institutions, determined with the European Commission's calculator. Green travel (confirmed sustainable means of transport) is defined as the travel that uses low-emissions means of transport, such as bus, train, car-pooling or bike. Flights and boat trips are not considered green. Travelling by car is only eligible for additional support in the case of car-sharing (regardless of whether it is a vehicle powered by traditional fuel or an electric car, e.g. car-sharing service or at least two Erasmus+ scholarship holders travel in one car together, etc. is accepted). If the scholarship holder is accompanied by a relative or friend only, it does not qualify as green travel!

The amount of the travel support based on the distance (please note, that different travel support is available for some partnerships, this is indicated in the tables below in each case):

AVAILABLE MOBILITY TYPES

1. Long-term mobility for studies in close partner countries

The purpose of the long-term mobility for studies is to complete one academic semester at a partner university or do thesis research. BA/BSc and MA/MSc students can complete a mobility only if ELTE recognizes the exchange semester and includes the results in the academic progress of the student – this is done either by credit and grade conversion in line with ELTE regulations or in the form of a diploma supplement. BA/BSc and MA/MSc students are required to complete a minimum of 20 ECTS credits during their semester abroad.

PhD students do not have to complete courses and gain credits if the purpose of the mobility is doctoral research.

• Mobility duration: min. 2 months, max. as indicated in the table below
• Grant amount: EUR 600/month
• Travel support (one-time support, based on the distance between the headquarters of the sending and the host institutions, determined with the European Commission's calculator)
• Additional support and green travel support is available. 

You may apply for the following mobilities in the indicated duration and study cycle:

2. Short-term doctoral mobility in close partner countries

Short-term mobility is open only to PhD students for the purpose of research or participating in workshops or training.

Conference attendance is NOT eligible for funding.

• Mobility duration: min. 5 days, max. as indicated in the table below.
• Grant amount: EUR 79/day until the 14th day, EUR 56/day from the 15th day.
• Travel support (one-time support, based on the distance between the headquarters of the sending and the host institutions, determined with the European Commission's calculator)
• An additional 1-1 travel day may be granted before and after the mobility (up until the maximum duration of the mobility).
• Additional support and green travel support is available.

You may apply for the following mobilities in the suggested duration:

3. Long-term mobility for studies in distant partner countries

5. Long-term mobillity for traineeship

The purpose of the mobilities is participation in a professional traineeship organized by the partner university. The activities carried out within the professional practice are counted by ELTE in the student's progress. In all cases, the credit recognition is initiated by the student. If the completed activity fits into the curriculum, credit may be awarded for it, if not, the University will indicate this in the diploma supplement. Since the credit recognision may differ, please check with your academic coordinator or at your faculty administration office before applying

• Mobility duration: min. 2 months, max. as indicated at each mobility in the table below
• Grant support: EUR 700/month
• Travel support (one-time support, based on the distance between the headquarters of the sending and the host institutions, determined with the European Commission's calculator)

COMPLETING THE MOBILITY

Students completing their studies abroad in the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility program

• do not pay tuition fees at the host institution;
• are in active student status and enrolled at the home university, pay their tuition fees, and receive their regular scholarship for the duration of their stay abroad;
• in case of a long-term mobility, students carry out part of their domestic study obligations by studying abroad. The two cooperating institutions agree about the courses to be taken at the host university before the mobility begins. BA/BSc and MA/MSc students are required to complete a minimum of 20 ECTS credits. There can be a higher (but not a lower) minimum of credits set by the course supervisor and published in the faculty/institution/departmental call.
• Courses related to the major of the student are accepted based on the ELTE credit number, while other courses are evaluated through a separate procedure. For more information on credit recognition see our website.

WHO CAN APPLY?

All ELTE students who

• have Hungarian citizenship, a registration certificate or a valid permanent or temporary residence permit (with the exception of BA or MA Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holders -- however, doctoral students with a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship can apply for short-term mobilities, while Stipendium Hungaricum Dissertation Scholarship holder can not apply for a mobility);
• have completed at least two semesters in their BA program by the time of the planned mobility (some faculties might set a higher number of completed semesters in their qualification rules);
• have a valid student status at ELTE in the semester when the mobility is planned;
• meet the application requirements of the faculty/department concerned;
• have at least a B2 level in the language(s) of education (if the host university requires a higher level of language proficiency, this will apply);

According to Erasmus+ rules, each student can be granted Erasmus status for a maximum of 12 months in total per level of education (part-time and professional training altogether, even if it is zero grant (label) mobility!). If the applicant has participated in an Erasmus part-time course and/or professional training at their current level of education but has not used the 12-month Erasmus timeframe, they can apply again. Master's or doctoral students who have already been Erasmus+ scholarship holders at their previous level(s) of training can also apply.

HOW TO APPLY

To apply for any types of mobility, please submit the following documents:

1. application form and attachements:
   1.1. application form for Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (filled via a word processor, digitally or manually signed by the applicant) AND the declaration of support (filled and signed by the academic coordinator and the head/chair of the sending department/institute
   1.2. application form for SEMP mobility programme (filled via a word processor, digitally or manually signed by the applicant)
2. curriculum vitae (in English and in the language required by the host institution);
3. motivation letter (in English and in the language required by the host institution); -- How to write a motivation letter?
4. transcript of records of last two semesters in English (printed out from the Neptun system); -- How to print transcript of records from Neptun?
5. a copy of diploma in Hungarian and English (in case you are an MA/MSc or PhD student);
6. certificate of the required language proficiency (you may contact the academic coordinator about the required language skills); in the absence of a language certificate, the sending department/institute can issue a proof of language (signed by the head of department/institute)
7. a copy of permanent or temporary residence permit or refugee status document if you are not a Hungarian citizen;
8. any additional documents required by the faculty/institute/department.

Please note that your CV and motivational letter (together with other supporting documents) will be forwarded to the partner institution as part of the nomination process. You will be introduced by these documents to the professors and staff of the host institution.

If the call for applications of the faculty or institute/department contains other requirements, you have to meet those as well in order to submit a successful application.

We accept all documents in digital form (Word or Pdf form) only. We ask applicants to name the documents the following way: "Name Last Name_[type of document]" (e.g. "John Smith_Letter of motivation"). Incomplete, illegible or handwritten applications will not be accepted.

APPLICATION DEADLINE AND EVALUATION PROCEDURE

Submission of applications

Applications for the academic year 2025/2026 have to be submitted to the faculty international office (students of the Faculty of Humanities must submit their applications to the academic coordinator in charge) by 26 February 2025. This deadline may vary due to faculty/institute/department specifics. Evaluated applications will be forwarded to the Department of Erasmus+ and International Programs by the faculty international offices no later than 19 March 2025.

Evaluation of the applications

General criteria of evaluation (the list is not in a priority order, and there might be other aspects as well due to specific faculty regulations):

• language proficiency;
• academic achievements;
• professional knowledge and activity;
• academic excellence or other significant professional achievements;
• participation in the activities of the ELTE Students’ Union or other organizations;
• mentoring of incoming Erasmus students.

Ranking and decision-making

Applications proposed for financial support by the respective faculties, will be further evaluated by HOMB (Hallgatói és Oktatói Mobilitási Bizottság that is, Committe on Student and Staff Mobility). HOMB decision on which applicaitons to grant financial support to will be finalized on 8 April 2025. Partner universities confirm whether to host ELTE applicants via a nomination procedure by the end of April 2025. 

Successful applications not granted a financial support will be placed on reserve list. If the partner university confirms to host an applicant without a financial support, (s)he might decide to start her/his mobility as a self-financed participant.

The announcement of results

Successful applicants are notified via e-mail, expected in early April. Where nomination deadline precedes the HOMB decision on financial support, students will be conditionally nominated to partners.

Eötvös Loránd University is launching a call for applications for long-term and short-term student mobilities for the spring semester of the academic year 2024/2025. The deadline for applications is 17 September 2024.

AIM OF THE CALL

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility, students have the opportunity to participate in short- or long-term study mobilities at one of our partner universities in a so-called Erasmus Partner Country (i.e. not being part of the classic Erasmus+ program, such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland or non-European countries). A mobility can be started only at partner universities that have signed an inter-institutional agreement with ELTE by the start date of the mobility.

The following mobilities are available:

1. Long-term student mobility for studies in close partner countries (i.e. the United Kingdom, Switzerland)
2. Short-term doctoral mobility in close partner countries (i.e. the United Kingdom, Switzerland)
3. Long-term student mobility for studies in distant partner countries
4. Short-term doctoral mobility in distant partner countries

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that only students of the departments/institutes cooperating with the partners listed below are eligible to apply for the mobilities announced in this call. You may find more information under the description of each type of mobility.

RANKING OF APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED IN DIFFERENT ERASMUS+ PROGRAMS

If you have simultaneously submitted several long-term mobility applications in the framework of different Erasmus+ calls for the same mobility period, the applications will be ranked as follows:

1. Erasmus+ study abroad programme within the framework of agreements for all subject fields
2. Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility
3. Erasmus+ Mobility Programme within Europe

This means that a successful application submitted in the call for the Erasmus+ study abroad programme within the framework of agreements for all subject fields will beat all other types of applications, even if they are successful as well and these will be considered cancelled automathically.
